How much does a humand geneticist with an M.D. make?

I am interested in going into human genetics-either research or clinical-and was wondering what kind of salary I could potentially make.

How much does a humand geneticist with an M.D. make?
Probably more than a non-human geneticist...those poor monkeys are so under paid ;)

Seriously though, if you want to do science research do it because you have an inquisitive mind and not for the money. Expect to be poor for a long time... the money will come eventually but there are far easier ways to make it. You'll need about 8 years of schooling followed by a few years of post doc work (which pays only slightly more than grad school). If you are doing academic research (i.e. at a university) don't expect to make much more than a highschool teacher until you get tenure. If you are doing medical research at a hospital you will fare a little better (cancer is where the money is). If you go into research with only a BSc. or a Masters expect to make very little money (you'd make more as a custodian). You need the M.D. or a Ph.D. (which takes even longer) to earn a decent wage. Sorry to dissapoint you, but I've gone through it and it's tough. Do science because you love it, if you're lucky you'll be able to feed yourself too.
