Clinical research associate salary in asia?

How much does an entry-level clinical research associate earn in asia (Singapore, Philippines, or Australia)? Most of the job ads just state salaries as 'negotiable'. Would the pay go up if you have a med degree?

Clinical research associate salary in asia?
I'm not sure about Singapore or the Philippines, but here's a link showing the median Clinical Research Associate salary in Australia: http://www.payscale.com/research/AU/Job=... Salaries will of course vary depending on experience, employment setting and other factors. I have 4 years of experience in retail pharmacy (certified pharmacy technician) and a Bachelor of science in biochemistry/ chem minor..........how do I get into clinical research with a biotechnology/pharmaceutical company??

How do I get into a Clinical Research positon??
I assume you are referring to positions in managing and monitoring clinical trials, data management, etc. Medzilla.com has great information for those interested in the clinical research field. I highly recommend visiting the forums; I have learned a lot by just browsing through the posts.
Reply:I'm not sure that there are too may research positions for those with a bachelor's degree. I used to hear that one must at least have a master's degree (if not a ph.d/doctorate) perhaps in bio, biochem as you have, psychobiology or neuroscience to work in clinical/medical research. Perhaps you can call your local medical research hospitals and ask the minimum requirements for such a position.

Here is a website for general career information: US Occupational Outlook Handbook www.bls.gov/oco and can type into search 'medical researcher' or 'biologist' or such. Good luck to you!

What can I expect for a starting salary as Clinical Research Associate?

About to graduate with a doctorate in clinical microbiology and I'm gunning for a CRA slot. Exp. includes a fully-run clinical study during my PhD and 4 years as research assistant in a clinical lab (CRF entry, sample collection, etc). I'd consider various cities (I'm sure it varies) but would move nationwide to fit an opening. So any suggestions would be great! PS: I've already scanned PayScale and Salary.com so save those answers.

What can I expect for a starting salary as Clinical Research Associate?
Generally speaking, $49,000 according to this site:

http://www.healthcarejobstore.com/hb_cfm...
Reply:I would imagine it depends on the area of the country you are in but a CRA with a PhD I would imagine you would want to negotiate for a Senior CRA position, in the Midwest they are in the low to mid 100's.

I'm sure I won't win with this answer but you really need to ask yourself if you will be satisfied with a CRA position. You may find it not as challenging as you like. Consider searching out "medical science liason" in job boards instead of CRAs. They travel but have more administrative and corporate responsibilities with less CRF monitoring.

Is it safe to volunteer for clinical research?

My son is currently admitted to Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), Boston being treated for manic episode. He suffers from biporal disorder (BPD). He is supposed to attend his MBA classes at JWU, Rhodes Island from Sept 5 and was living in Boston with some friends. I am in Nepal strggling to support my family and can not afford to support this son in his studies and medical bills. He does not have a medical insurance also. Uncer such circumstances, he being a typical case of a BPD patient can offer himself as volunteer for research in the field of BPD, and get his medical bills waived, because as I learned from their web site MGH is ranked no.1 in US in the field of psychiatry. I need some expert advice on how safe is it to offer yourself as ginea pig for clinical research?

Is it safe to volunteer for clinical research?
Usually it's OK, but it can be dangerous. I'd be careful with it.

I think Massachusetts has a pretty good health insurance system, for people without money. The hospital should have a social worker who would know about that, and could help him sign up for it . If he's not a citizen, I'm not sure if he can get it, but it might still be worth looking into.

I'd check into other low-cost ways of getting care, too, before going the research route. Can he get it through his school? Or through a clinic? Sometimes doctors get free samples they can give out, or drug companies have programs where they give poor people free drugs.

Good luck- it's hard having to deal with something from so far away, and without money. Can you e-mail his hospital and ask to talk with a social worker? Or one of your son's doctors, caseworkers or therapists?
Reply:If volunteering for clinical and drug research wasn't safe, the FDA wouldn't allow it.

One thing to consider is whether or not your son has any medical coverage through his college.

Good Luck.
Reply:Unless they're actively SEEKING participants for a particular study, you can't just go "offering" yourself to people for a thing like that.
Reply:If thr research is though a hospital then it sould be safe they might not treat him though when they do a reseach study some peploe are a control group and get not treatment or get fake treatment they will explan this to you but in most cases they cant tell you if you where chosen to get treamnet or not as it would thourgh of the study they need to inform you of every thing they can before you agree to participate but like I said they can not tell you if you where getting real tretment untill after the study becuse if would really thorgh it off altough some studys everyone getts treatment but one group gets standard treatment and one group gets new treatment legaly they have to give you as much infrmation and anser as many quetions as they can as long as if does not through off there results and after the study they will fill you in compleatly
Reply:As others have said, a study would need to be in place. Clinical research is done to determine whether or not a particular treatment is safe. Research involving drugs and other chemical treatments has a high risk, otherwise the drug would go straight to market.

How to I get a job as a clinical research associate?

I have a biology degree and I have worked in various labs doing research. I would like to move into the direction of clinical research monitoring sites and all that goes along with that job. The only problem is every open job posting wants you to have at least one years experience. How do I get experience?

How to I get a job as a clinical research associate?
In my opinion, there are a few ways to break into a CRA role.

1)

Go through a temp agency, where the criteria may be lowered. The drawbacks are usually no vacation time and no insurance.

2)

Take a job as a CDA (clinical data associate).

A CDA basically cleans the data coming in on the CRF (clinical research form) and issues queries. This would give you the "pharma experience" to move either internally to a CRA position and then onto CRA'ing for a pharma company, or directly to a pharma company.

These positions are usually more easily found at CRO's (clinical research organization) companies, which work for the pharma industry. These companies bid on trials and then manage the data management and the monitoring. They are generally as not as nice to work for as the pharmaceutical companies: more hours, less pay. But they do give you benefits (i.e. vacation, retirement, profit sharing, health insurance)

Final Recomendations:

Be aware that a CRA is a job in which you will have to travel a great deal until you are senior enough. It is the ultimate road warrior job. If they say 50-60% travel they mean 80-90%

Once you are in the clinical trial world, look into becoming accredited through SOCRA or ACRP. If you have problems getting a job and are serious look at getting your RN license you then become very marketable in most regions and can either work for the site or the pharma company.

A lot of the above is contigent on you living in an area where there are numerous CROs, and pharmaceutical companies. East Coast (i.e. research triangle), Chicago area, West Coast (San Diego, San Francisco). If you don't then it will be more difficult but if you are willing to be on the road 80% or more of the time, then moving shouldn't be a big problem.

Google for pharmaceutical companies, clinical research organizations, device companies etc... in your area.

The big CROs I know of are: Quintiles, Covance, and Kendle

Good Luck!

How can I get into the clinical research field after getting a PhD in a life science?

I'm finding this very difficult as I am viewed as overqualified for an entry level position, but underqualified for higher level positions because I have no clinical research experience. My goal is to be a clinical trials project manager. I need good advice. Thanks!

How can I get into the clinical research field after getting a PhD in a life science?
I would hate for you to have to downplay your PhD. Where have you been applying? Have you tried contract research companies (they run trials for companies). Pharmaceutical companies may also have their own staff and would probably be more open to highly educated people as yourself, as they generally pay well.

Are you networking? After earning an advanced degree I would expect you to have some contacts in your field. If not, trying contacting appropriate managers at companies you are targeting and ask if they would grant you an informational meeting. Just be up front and tell them that this field interests you and you want to learn more about it. I'll bet if you targeted 10 companies you would find at least 3 managers willing to talk to you for 15-20 minutes in such a "no obligation" situation. They may even decide they like you and keep you in mind when they have an opening! Good luck.
Reply:I attended the CRA program at American Scitech Institute in Piscataway NJ (craschool.com). In order to be a project manager you need to understand the role of the CRA's you are managing. Email me at msantoro@americanscitech.com for information. Report Abuse
