Anyone know a PhD Clinical Psychology program that is geared more towards practice.?

I am looking for programs not heavily focused on research. I realize I could do a PsyD program, but I'm looking for a PhD program that is less research focused and high quality.

Anyone know a PhD Clinical Psychology program that is geared more towards practice.?
You know, there are just so many schools that offer the phd or psyd options for clinical psych. However, the best and only way to tell if they are good schools and do what they say they do is to visit the APPIC website. This site is where all of the internship sites are posted, where you would go to determine which internship sites you would want to go to in your final year. It also doubles as a cheat sheet to see how many schools actually had interns that were matched. Being matched is extremely important, because if you are not matched to an internship program in your last year, you don't get to go to internship, duh, right?

So, lets take UCLA, for example. If you look at the website's list, scroll down to UCLA (or your school in mind) and see what the percentage of matched students they have. If it's higher than 70%, you are probably going to a competitive school that does what it claims their students can do.

To answer your question more directly, I currently attend Alliant in Fresno in the psyd program for clinical psych. However, a majority if the phd students take the same classes the psyd's do. The phd program is geared towards teaching, so they take just 1 or 2 teaching classes and then they have a year of teaching internship, plus their clinical internship (the hands on practice that the psyd's do, too). It's a fabulous program and is very highly honored in CA. The phd program is a 5 year track, 1-3 are classes and practicum (hands on clinical work in agencies), year 4 is teaching internship and year 5 is clinical internship.

Not too bad. We don;t have the greatest rap on the APPIC website, though.

Anyway, check it out- it's a good school, but I would have completed my degree in either LA (Alhambra) or in San Fran. The San Fran campus is right on the pier. You walk out of the front door and you are on Embardaco street. It's so freaking gorgeous.

Here's the direct link to the school's match rate on APPIC.

So, look for the school you are interested in.
